Gus and Ty getting MIAA and KJCCC Post Season Awards

    Former Mulvane standout Gus Strunk finished up his last year of college baseball at Fort Hays State University as they closed out the season with a 19-28 record and 16-20 in conference play. Six of the Tigers were named to the All-MIAA baseball team including Gus who was named All-MIAA Honorable Mention for second base. Strunk started all 47 games for FHSU at second base in 2015. The senior batted .308 with seven doubles and 14 RBI, while scoring 28 runs. He recorded 123 assists in the field and helped turn 29 double plays on the year.

    From Player Profile: 2014 Season: Appeared in 40 games as an infielder, making 39 starts as an infielder (30 at second base, eight at third base, and one at pitcher)...Had a solid season on the mound, posting an ERA of 5.09 in his five appearances with a 1-1 record...Recorded 13 strikeouts in 17.2 innings pitched...Ranked fourth on the team in batting average (.315), recorded seven extra-base hits (six doubles, one triple), and produced 14 RBI and 27 runs scored...Had a season-best three RBI in a game at Texas A&M-International...Recorded a season-high three hits on three occasions...Scored a season-best three runs in a game against Lindenwood...Went at least 2.0 innings in all four of his relief outings and 6.0 innings in his only start of the season...Recorded a season-high four strikeouts in three innings of relief against Bethany College, which also produced his only win of the season...Held opponents to a batting average of .238.

    Gus spent two years as a Butler Grizzly where as a sophomore in 2013, played in 36 games and batted .220 with four doubles, one triple, 11 RBI, 14 runs scored, and five stolen bases. As a freshman in 2012, played in 49 games and batted .247 with two doubles, 27 runs scored, 19 RBI, and nine stolen bases.


    Former Mulvane standout Ty Redington finished up his last year at Butler CC as they closed out the season with a 31-30 record and 17-15 in conference play. Eight of the Grizzlies were named to the All-KJCCC baseball team including Ty who was named All-KJCCC Honorable Mention for Outfield. Ty started all 61 games for the Grizzlies in the outfield in 2015. The senior led the team in several batting categories including At Bats (213), Runs scored (56), Hits (73), Walks (27), and Stolen Bases (34). Ty finished the season with at .343 batting average (3rd on the team).

    Redington is in his second year playing for the Grizzlies. During his freshman year, he was shifted around in the field to fill a few positions as needed, mainly shortstop, second base, and left field. Ty had a very good Freshman year at the bat and ended the season with 187 Plate Appearances, 137 At Bats, 44 Runs, 39 Hits, 22 RBI, .285 AVG, .441 OBP, and .409 SLG. The 2014 Grizzlies ended with a 36-23 overall record and 20-12 in conference play.

    Ty will continue his college baseball career at Fort Hays State University next year as he signed with them earlier this spring.
