Anthony Scantlin finishes high school career near perfect.

MHS - Wrestling / February 26, 2017 By Kasey McDowell

Mulvane Senior Anthony Scantlin capped his near perfect high school wrestling career with his 3rd straight state title. Scantlin and Dylan Jorns were the only two Wildcats to make it to state this season.

STATE TOURNAMENT
In the 285 lb weight class, Dylan Jorns had a tough tournament with an injury very early in the first match that took him out of the rest of the tournament.

In the 152 lb weight class, Anthony Scantlin began his 3rd state championship run against Connor Rychiec from Burlington with pin at the 36 second mark in the 2nd period. His second match was against Clay Center's Peyton Lane and ended with a pin with just 4 seconds left in the 1st period. Scantlin continued his run with another pin, this time at the 25 second mark in the 3rd period against Linwood's Caden Searcy. The next match was for the championship against Pratt's Nick Lucas.

In the championship match, Anthony grabbed a 2 point lead with 1:28 left in the 1st period with a takedown. 9 second later there was a break in action to attend to a bloody nose. The rest of the 1st period was evenly matched and Anthony went into the 2nd period with a 2-0 lead. Scantlin increased his lead by 1 very quickly in the second period with a 1 point escape with 1:43 left in the period and added 2 more points with 27 seconds left with a takedown. This put him up 5-0 entering the 3rd period. Anthony was able to hold off Nick from scoring any points in the 3rd period and won his 3rd state title with a 5-0 decision.

Trips to state and even bringing home some champions is nothing new to Coach Langerot (6 state titles in his career), but there are not a lot of 3x timers around. "Anthony is a fine young man! One of the hardest working young men that I have had in 40 years of coaching. He never lets up in a match or panics,he is always focus. Anthony overall record is 156-12." said Coach Langerot. Add in Anthony's 2nd place his freshman year, you could say his wrestling career was almost perfection, something he wishes to continue in college as he has signed with Fort Hays State University.
