MHS - Men's Basketball / February 12, 2018 By Michael Abasolo

Heading into Friday night’s Feb. 9 matchup with Rose Hill, Jr. Drew Ellis was tied at 125 made three pointers in a career with Ty Reddington who played from 2009-2013. Ellis has already taken one record from Reddington, back on Jan. 9 at home against Clearwater, Ellis hit nine three pointers in one game, finishing with 37 points and overtaking Reddington’s seven in one game, set back in 2013.

After starting 0-5,  Ellis shot his way into the record books again, knocking down three pointer number 126 on the left side corner with an assist from Jr. Jeb Herrman.

Number 127 followed from a full court long diagonal pass from Fr. Trey Abasolo to Ellis who caught and shot standing on the Rocket logo in front of the Wildcat bench, hitting nothing but net.

Late in the fourth quarter, with the Wildcat’s under their own goal, number 128 came with another assist from Abasolo at the top wing spot from about 28 feet away.

Ellis has secured his spot in the record books in 12 fewer games than Reddington’s 71. In only 59 games, Ellis already has 933 career points, compared to Reddington’s 721 career points. Jerry Webster still holds the career scoring record from 1952-1956 with 1218 points, Lonnie Travis in only three years, 1982-1985 scored 1175 points.

With five games left in his junior season and his senior year still to go, Ellis looks to cement his legacy as the all time best three point shooter in program history.
