Headed into the 4A Div. I Sub State first round match up with host, Augusta, on Friday, March 2, Jr. Drew Ellis was sitting at 996 career points.

Four points away from breaking 1,000, in the third possession of the game for the Wildcats, Ellis drove left from the left wing and pulled up for a five foot jump shot with a kiss off the glass, 998.

Later in the first quarter, with the ball out on the sideline, the Wildcats got the ball in and broke the Orioles half court zone trap and after swinging the ball, Ellis caught at the top of the key.

After sizing up his defender, Ellis ripped the ball through and drove left, an Augusta help defender stepped up to take the charge, but Ellis stopped and popped from about 5 feet out, 1,000 points dropped in with nothing but net, swish.

Ellis would finish the game with 1,028 points after scoring 32 points on the Orioles. He also added to his career three point record, dropping in three more three pointers, to move his total to 134 career three pointers made. Ellis finished with 48 total three pointers this season while averaging 21 points per game.

His season high game was at home against Clearwater where he set the school record for three pointers made in a single game, nine, and finished with 37 points. He scored 27 points in three games this season. Circle, Rose Hill, and Clearwater again.

Ellis combined for 431 total points this season for the Cats. He averaged 4.5 assists per game, 2.7 steals per game, and 5 rebounds per game as a point guard.
