MHS - Women's Golf / October 22, 2018 By Kasey McDowell
The Mulvane Women's Golf team was young and inexperienced this season, but Coach Headrick was pleased with the progress the ladies made this season. The team consisted of Juniors Mattie Ewing and Taylor Ingram, Sophomore Shyra Herrman, and Freshman Brantlee Allen and Isabella Larraga. Ewing and Ingram participated in most of the Varsity contests. Ewing lead the Wildcats with a 9-hole season average of 59, followed by Ingram (61), Herrman (63), Allen (76), and Larraga (77).
At the regional tournament, Ewing earned a trip to state with a score of 59 and the 4th individual spot for state. Ingram earned a trip to state with a score of 63 and the 5th individual spot for state. The girls did not medal at State, but gained some valuable experience at a big stage such as the State Tournament.
"Going into the 4A State tournament, Mattie Ewing and Taylor Ingram were both trying to beat their best season scores. Mattie's goal was to beat the 107 she shot at Cherry Oaks, while Taylor's goal was to beat the 110 she shot also at Cherry Oaks. Neither girl was able to do that, but they did get some great experience in playing in the high pressure environment of a State tournament. Shyra Herrman was able to make some significant score improvements this season, and I am looking forward to seeing how much further she can drop her scores next season. Both Isabella Larraga and Brantlee Allen were able to gain valuable tournament experience this year and they will continue to improve as their swing fundamentals improve" said Coach Headrick.
