MHS - Track & Field / May 28, 2015 By Kasey McDowell

Mulvane Freshman Erika Landes had a very busy first year of high school in the sports arena. During the fall, she was a part of the varsity cross country team, during the winter she played basketball, and spring brought track. Erika participated in the 800 & 1600 Meter runs as well as the 4x400 and 4x800 Meter relays this track season.

Landes will be the lone Wildcat participating in the State Track Meet this weekend at Wichita State Cessna Stadium. She ran her personal best 2:30.17 in the 800 Meter run to place 4th in regionals and qualify for state. She also ran her personal best 5:37.16 in the 1600 meter run at regionals but missed qualifying for state in that race by one place. Erika placed six times in both the 800 and 1600 meter races this season.

During her high school debut in Cross Country, Erika was a medalist in every race (except the KU Invitational) during the season and also received All League Honors. During basketball, she participated in all levels, including some varsity time.

Erika is the daughter of the Track and Cross Country head coach Dale Landes and Renie Landes, and  sister of multiple state champion and KU runner Evan Landes.
