Seniors Ana Lopez Alvarez and Ana Urra represented the Mulvane Wildcats at the 2017-18 Kansas Girls HS Championship on February 10th at McPherson High School. In all there were 54 schools and 240 wrestlers at the state tournament. Both Ana's represented well in their weight classes as Lopez finished 2nd in state and Urra finished 5th in state.
Lopez's first match was against Morgan of McPherson and Ana pinned her opponent at the 2:33 mark of the match. Her second match was against Jones from Douglass. She was able to pin her opponent at the 4:38 mark of the match. Her third match was against French of Wichita North. The third match went all three rounds and Lopez won the decision with a 5-3 score. In the championship class for the 113A weight class, Ana faced Chronister from Kansas City-Turner. Unfortunately Ana was pinned by Chronister at the 5:27 mark of the match. Urra's first match was against Gonsalves from Clearwater and Gonsalves was able to pin Urra at the 1:19 mark of the match. Her second match was against Norstrom from Canton-Galva and Norstrom pinned Urra at the 3:13 mark of the match. Ana's third match was against Russell from Fort Scott and that match went all three rounds and she came out on top in a 7-3 decision. In the battle for 5th place, Urra faced Mills from Kansas City-Sumner Academy and Urra was able to pin her at the 1:44 mark to secure 5th place in state.

Ana Lopez finished the season with a 10-23 record (vs boys and girls) and an 8-3 record versus just girls. Ana Urra finished the season with a 7-25 record (versus boys and girls) and a 7-3 record versus just girls.
