MHS - Women's Soccer / April 26, 2018 By Kasey McDowell

Coach Anna Johnson is very excited to see the how her ladies will finish the season as they are currently leading the league with 8 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. The Wildcats have outscored their opponents 32 to 6 in the 10 games thus far. The season started off with a tie versus Augusta after a controversial call allowed a last minute penalty kick for Augusta to tie the game. The Cats then went on a 3 game win streak against Circle (1-0), Collegiate (1-0), and Winfield (3-0). The only hiccup for the season was against Buhler where the Cats lost 1-4. The ladies are currently on a 5 game win streak with wins over Augusta (3-1), El Dorado (10-0), Collegiate (5-0), Circle (2-0), and Ark City (5-0).

The Wildcats are lead by top scoring sophomore forward Kolbie McDaniel who currently has 14 goals and 3 assists (31 points) and averaging 3.1 goals per game. Senior Jacey Johnson is the second leading scorer with 10 goals and 1 assist (21 points) and averaging 2.1 goals per game. Senior defender Morgan Mitchell currently has 4 goals and 3 assists and Senior midfielder Blaze Parsons has 2 goals and 1 assist. Senior defender Puritee Soto has 1 goal and 2 assists. Freshman Forward Sean Neptune has 1 goal on the season. Sophomore Goalkeeper Katie Kanaga has been solid in front of the net and has only allowed 6 goals this season with 53 saves for an average of 5.3 saves per game.

In supporting roles are Senior midfielder Journey Baker, Junior midfielder Grace Myears, Junior defender Kendall Cottrell, Junior midfielder Mady Tharp, and Freshman defender Haley Hughes.

The Cats will take part in a tournament hosted by Wichita North this coming week and will finish out the season against Rose Hill (Senior Night - May 7th), Winfield (May 8th), and El Dorado (May 10th) before the start of Regionals on May 14th.

Some items of interest, the ladies have a chance to tie or best their school record of 13-4 set last season if they can win out or go deep into Regionals/State. Also Kolbie McDaniel is on pace to best the school record for goals in a season (19 by Elise Gerlach - 2011) if she continues her average goals per game.

Go Cats!!!
