Chadwick Stahl and Kyle Smith bring home 2nd place and 4th place 4A State Medals.

Sophomore Chadwick Stahl and Senior Kyle Smith represented the Mulvane Wildcats at the 4A Wrestling State Championships this past weekend. 

In the 120 lb bracket, Chadwick first faced William Gomez from El Dorado and won by Fall at the 0:44 mark. He then faced Richard Blevins of Ottawa and won by Fall at the 4:32 mark. His next match was against Isaac Novotny from Marysville. Stahl won this match by Fall at the 2:25 mark.

This set up Chadwick for the State championship match against Hector Serratos from Andale. This match was an exciting match that went down to the wire. Chadwick took an early lead, scoring with a takedown (0:10) and an escape (0:37), but Serratos scored with a takedown as well (0:52). Period 1 ended with Stahl leading 3-2. Period 2 went to Serratos with him scoring 3 points with a takedown (0:46) and an escape (1:49). Period 2 ended with Serratos leading 5-3. Chadwick scored again quickly in the 3rd period with an escape (0:32), then Serratos scored again with a takedown (0:48). Chadwick scored again with an escape (1:14) to bring the score to 7-5 in Serratos's favor. The match would end with this score with Chadwick bringing home 2nd Place in 4A State.

In the 285 lb bracket, Kyle first faced Qualin Powell of Chanute and lost by fall at the 2:12 mark. He then faced Wyaitt Cox of Halliburton and won by fall at the 3:35 mark. His next match was against Conner Snell of Clearwater and Smith defeated Snell by Fall at the 2:56 mark. Smith next faced Ethan Wampler of Lindsborg-Smoky Valley and defeated him by fall at the 0:43 mark. This set up a rematch with Qualin Powerll of Chanute and Smith advanced due to Inj 0:00. This set up the 3rd place match with Kyle up against Ayston Perez of Ulysses. Perez was able to defeat Smith by fall at the 2:14 mark. Kyle brought home 4th place in 4A State.

Chadwick and Kyle both had great seasons with Chadwick finishing his sophomore season with a record of 38-4 and Kyle finishing his senior season with a 36-8 record.
