Mulvane Women's Soccer Hoping to Add Wins to 27-7-1 Record from Past Two Seasons.

MHS - Women's Soccer / March 15, 2019 By Kasey McDowell

Mulvane Women's Soccer Coach Anna Johnson has been practicing and evaluating the past couple of weeks and is hoping to build on the success from the last couple of seasons. The women's soccer team ended the 2017-18 season with a 13-4-1 record, which is the best record of the programs history and they ended the 2016-17 season with a 13-4 record.

Coach Johnson has to replace Morgan Mitchell (1st Team All League), Blaze Parson (2nd Team All League), Puritiee Soto (All League Hon Mention), and Jacey Johnston (All League Hon Mention) who were all graduating seniors last year. She has 31 players this season and will have returning All League players junior Kolbie McDaniel (1st Team All League), senior Grace Myears (All League Hon Mention), senior Mady Tharp (All League Hon Mention), and junior Katie Kanaga (All League Hon Mention). Grace and Mady are the only returning seniors and foreign exchange student Alicia Almirante from Spain is also on the team.

McDaniel set a school record last year with 21 goals and also had 8 assists and 50 points** as a forward. Myears finished last year with 2 goals and 1 assist as a midfielder. Myears will mostly play defense this season according to Coach Johnson. Tharp played midfield last year and ended with season with 3 assists. Kanaga finished the season last year only allowing 9 goals with 118 saves and a 93.0 save percentage. Other returning scorers are junior Carson White, sophomore Emma Anderson, and sophomore Sean Neptune.

The JV team last year finished the season with a 12-3 record so Coach Johnson is relying on the underclassmen to help continue the winning trend set in the past few seasons.

Mulvane will kick off the season with an away game at Ark City on March 19th (JV - 4:30 PM; Varsity - 6:00 PM) and the first home game is against Valley Center scheduled for March 28th at Lyle Couch stadium.

** Note: Points = (Goals * 2) + Assists
