The Kolb(i)e cousins leading the Cats to 3-1 record and 2 game win streak.

MHS - Women's Soccer / April 3, 2019 By Kasey McDowell

Coach Anna Johnson has been pleased with start of the Women's Soccer season thus far as the Wildcats have recorded 3 wins and 1 loss after 4 games and are currently 2-0 in league play.

The ladies kicked off the season with an away game at Ark City where the Wildcats easily defeated the Bulldogs 9-0. Freshman Midfielder Emma Kolbe lead the Wildcats with 4 goals and 3 assists (11 points) followed by Junior Forward Kolbie McDaniel with 3 goals of her own (6 points). Sophomore Midfielder Emma Anderson scored 2 goals and had 1 assist (5 points) and Junior Midfielder Rileigh Shockey had 1 assist. The midfield and defense, led by Seniors Mady Tharp and Grace Myears, dominated the Bulldogs and did not allow any shots on goal against Junior Katie Kanaga.

The second game was against a very good Valley Center team who only lost 1 game the previous season. The Wildcats battled against the Hornets for 90 minutes and goalkeeper Katie Kanaga had a monster game with 14 saves and allowed only 1 goal that was a perfectly placed shot in the very top right corner of the goal. The very fast and talented Hornets only allowed a few shots on goal for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats then traveled to Rose Hill where they outscored the Rockets 5-1. McDaniel lead the team with 2 goals and 2 assists (8 pts) followed by Junior Carson White with 2 goals (4 pts), and Kolbe with 1 goal (2 pts). The Wildcats defense only allowed 4 shots on goal and Kanaga had 3 saves and allowed 1 goal.

The Cats hosted the Winfield Vikings yesterday at Lyle Couch Stadium and after a slow 1st half that ended in a 1-1 tie, the Wildcats turned on the jets in the second half and outscored the Vikings 4-1. Kolbie McDaniel fought through a 1st half knee injury to score 2 goals in the second half. Emma Kolbe knocked in a goal and had 2 assists. Carson White scored a goal in the second half and Emma Anderson had 1 assist in the game. Katie Kanaga had a few outstanding saves and ended with 4 saves and 1 goal allowed.

The Cats will travel to Nickerson this Friday (4/5/2019) to take on the Panthers in a non-league match-up starting at 4:00 PM. Unfortunately all the JV games have been cancelled until they play Collegiate on 4/16/2019.
