The Mulvane Middle School girls basketball hosted a couple of home games against Haysville West MS and Wellington MS last week and the 7th grade girls split 2-2 between the A and B teams.

The girls faced Wellington on Thursday and lost a tough game 11-36. "The girls played very competitive in the first half. We introduced a new defense this week attempting to container their top 2 scorers. I'm proud of the way the girls battled all game, but the Wellington girls came out and knocked down a lot of shots in the second half" said Coach Hansen. Rylee Dieker played a good game on both ends. She did a better job looking for her shot, scoring 4 points and had 5 rebounds. Lexi Cunningham led the team in scoring with 5 point and also had 5 rebounds.

"Makenna Treat led the B team with 9 points. Brodee Ferry played another great game contributing 4 points. Izzy Loveless led the team with 4 rebounds. Our girls are getting better everyday. We are learning how to play together and learning to trust one another. They are a very coachable group that wants to improve. I'm excited to work with them and continue to watch them grow" said Hansen.

On Tuesday, the girls battled against Haysville West and edged out a 1 point victory. "We did a great job breaking their press in the first half, but we were unable to finish around the rim. Olivia and Madi both got into foul trouble early so we relied on our bench in the second quarter. The girls' energy and pressure on defense got us back into the game in the third quarter. Each of our varsity games have been within 5 points. Because of our experience in these close games we were able to handle ourselves and found a way to finish. Lexi led the team in points (6) and rebounds (9)" said Coach Hansen.

"The B girls pulled away early in the second quarter. Because of this lead we were able to give playing time to a lot of the girls on our JV roster. Makenna Treat and Mackenzie Christian both brought and a lot of defensive pressure in the second half that resulted in steals and transition opportunities. Jade Smallwood led the team with 8 points and Izzy Loveless led the team with 9 rebounds. Brodee Ferry ended the game with 5 points and Treat finished with 4 points. Holley Henderson, Mackenzie Christian, and Kierra Cain all finished the game with 2 points" said Hansen.
