The Mulvane girls basketball team hosted the 40th annual Wildcat Classic, finish 0-3 for the tournament.

The Mulvane Girls basketball hosted the 40th annual Wildcat Classic basketball tournament last week with 6 teams participating for 3 rounds of games. The Wildcats faced the top seed Conway Springs on Monday last week, then Ark City on Wednesday, and then Wichita North the past Saturday.

The Cats opened up tournament play against the Conway Springs Cardinals on Monday, January 27th and the Cardinals jumped on the Cats early with a 26-3 first quarter. The Cats had a better 2nd quarter but went into halftime down 11-37. Points were hard to come by in the 2nd half as the Cats fell 28-60. Junior Kaitlyn Klein led the Cats with 9 points followed by freshman Karlie Kanaga with 5 points, senior Carson White and junior Haley Hughes and freshman Jadyn Stevenson all with 3 points, junior Haley Chambers and sophomore Amber Hansen both with 2 points, and junior Campbell Williams and sophomore Kamryn Nolan both with 1 point.

The Cats faced Ark City in game 2 of the tournament and the Cats fared well in the 1st quarter with a 9-7 score, but the Bulldogs took over the 2nd quarter outscoring the Cats 21-12 and took a 28-21 halftime lead. The Cats had difficulty getting past the Bulldog defense in the 2nd half and fell 40-60. Klein and Stevenson led the Wildcats with 8 points each followed by Hansen with 6 points, Nolan with 5 points, Hughes with 4 points, White and Kanaga both with 3 points, Williams with 2 points, and Chambers with 1 point.

The girls faced Wichita North in the last game of the tournament and the Redskins took a 14-6 first quarter lead. The Cats fared better in the 2nd quarter tying North 11-11 but went into halftime down 17-25. The Cats couldn't quite make up the difference in the 2nd half and fell 35-44. Nolan led the Cats with 8 points followed by White with 7 points, Klein with 6 points, Hansen with 4 points, Kanaga and Stevenson both with 3 points, Chambers with 2 points, and Williams and freshman Haley Shaw with 1 point each.
