The Wildcats faced the Spartans in the 2021 season opener, played well but came up just short.

The Mulvane High School football team opened up their 2021 season by traveling to Wichita Collegiate for an AVCTL D4 league game against the Spartans.

The Spartans found the end zone first with a 48 yard run at the 4:21 mark of the first quarter. The Wildcats answered with a 59 yard pass from Mason Ellis (Sr.) to Hunter Seier (Sr.). Hunter broke a couple of tackles and found the north corner of the end zone, PAT good by Chase Dieker (Jr.).

The Spartans scored 10 more points in the second quarter with a field goal and an 11 yard td pass. The Cats went into halftime down 7-17. Quarterback Mason Ellis showed off his speed in the third quarter with a  79 yard TD run after breaking a couple of tackles, PAT good by Chase Dieker. The Spartan QB broke loose in the 4th quarter for a 47 yard TD run to bring the score to 14-24.

The Wildcats finished the game with 133 yards passing and 122 yard rushing while the Spartans finished with 65 and 178 respectively. Mason Ellis led the Cats with 125 yard rushing on 20 attempts and 1 touchdown, and Hunter Seier led the Cats with 90 yard receiving on 6 receptions and 1 touchdown. Ian Comer (Sr.) finished with 43 yards receiving on 3 receptions.

Trenton Davis (Jr.) led the Cats in tackles with 6.5 (2 solo and 9 assists)  and Ian Comer led the Cats in tackles for loss with 3.5.

The freshman-sophomore team hosted the Spartans this past Monday and fell 6-41.

The Wildcats will host their first home game of the season tomorrow as they host the Andale Indians at 7:00 PM.
