The Mulvane High School Wildcats had a challenging day at the Ark City Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, facing some good teams in the tournament. The Wildcats were competitive in each game, but just couldn't quite put the final touches on some of the teams.
The Wildcats started the tournament with a tough matchup against the Clearwater Indians. Mulvane fought hard but fell short, losing both sets 19-25 and 22-25. Next up, the Wildcats faced the host team, the Ark City Bulldogs. The Bulldogs proved to be a formidable opponent, as Mulvane lost in straight sets, 13-25 and 20-25.
The Wildcats’ fortunes did not improve against the Goddard Lions. In a closely contested match, Mulvane won the first set 25-23 but dropped the next two sets 20-25 and 17-25. They continued to struggle against the Andover Central Jaguars, falling 18-25 in the first set and just missing out in a nail-biting second set, 28-30.
The Wildcats ended their tournament on a high note with a victory over the Winfield Vikings. Mulvane showcased their resilience and skill, winning the first set 25-18 and dominating the second set 25-9.
Last week the Wildcats traveled to Buhler for a Triangular with Buhler and McPherson. The Wildcats fell to both teams with scores of 18-25 and 17-25 against McPherson and 12-25 and 14-25 against Buhler. The Cats defeated McPherson in the previous triangular at Andale 25-19 and 25-17, but fell to Andale 18-25 and 17-25
The varsity girls are sitting at 6-8 on the season and 1-2 in league play. The Cats will be back in action at home for their first home games on Tuesday, September 17th at 5:00 PM.
