MHS - Women's Basketball / November 10, 2024 By Kasey McDowell
The Mulvane Middle School girls basketball teams kicked off their 2024 winter season last week, and they were very busy with 3 games in their first week, traveling to Haysville West on Monday, Augusta on Tuesday, and hosting McPherson on Thursday.
The 8A team took care of business in their opener as they went into halftime up 20-11 and finished strong for a 32-19 win behind a 15 point effort by Sophia Comer. The 8th Grade girls B game was a nail-biter that ended in overtime but the Wildats fell just short with a 12-14 final. Rori Turner led the Cats with 6 points.
The 7A team faced a tough Haysville West team and the game came down to just a few points and the girls fell 15-21. Finley Tovar and Khloe Schwanke led the Cats with 6 points each. The 8B girls took care of business with a 23-16 win with Kenley Womack and Tenley Basinger scoring 8 point each for the Cats.

The MMS Girls traveled to Augusta for their second game of the season and the 8A game was a nail-biter but the Cats fell just short of the Orioles with a final score of 23-25. Jillian Heersched led the Wildcats with 12 points in the game. The 8B girls had trouble getting points to fall against Augusta as they fell 12-24. Lyllie Brunnelson led the Cats with 7 points.
The 7A girls had a great game against the Orioles and came out on top for their first win with a 29-14 final. Finley Tovar led the Cats with 10 points in the game. The 7B girls also had a great game and got a 22-7 win behind a 12-point effort by Tenley Bansinger.

The girls first home games were against McPherson on Thursday and the 8A girls dominated the night with a final score of 58-25. The Wildcats had four girls finish in double digits with Jayde Lasiter finishing with 16 points, Lydia McGrew with 13 points, and Jillian Heersche and Sophia Comer both with 11 points. The 8B girls had a close game with MAC but fell just short with a 20-23 final. Aubree Jantz led the Cats with 7 points.
The 7A had trouble getting points to fall against McPherson as they fell 3-36. The Wildcats were led by Tenley Basinger who finished with 2 points in the game. The 7B girls topped the Bullpups with a final score of 28-15 with Bethany Brown and Tenley Bansinger leading the Cats with 8 points each.
