The Mulvane High School basketball team defeats Independence in OT, Manny Myers score 32.

The Mulvane High School boys basketball team had a busy week last week at the Thunderbird Classic. The Cats made the long trip to Parsons, hosted Labette County, and played Independence at Circle High School. The Wildcats went 1-2 in the tournament, facing some tough competition.

The Wildcats kicked off the tournament on the road at Parsons. The Wildcats fell behind in the first half, going into halftime down 22-32. The Cats couldn't make up any points in the second half and fell 53-75. Junior Canon Lazier had a strong performance with 22 points and Manny Myers dropped in 15 points. Braylon Barnes led the Cats on the boards with 6 rebounds.

Mulvane's next game was against Labette County at home. The Grizzlies jumped out ahead in the first half with a 36-24 halftime lead. The Cats had a tough 3rd quarter as well and lost with a final score of 42-70. Manny Myers led the boys with 11 points on the evening and on the boards with 4 rebounds. Canon Lazier and Hudson Myers both scored in double digits with 10 points each.

The Wildcat's final game of the tournament was against Independence at Circle. Independence came out on fire with 28 first-quarter points and the Wildcats found themselves down at half 28-41. The third-quarter however was all Wildcats as they tied up the ballgame with a 23-10 quarter. The teams both scored 11 points in the fourth quarter and the game went into overtime. The Wildcats were able to win the overtime battle and the Cats won 77-71. Manny Myers had a monster game and led the Cats with 32 points in the contest. Canon Lazier scored 12 for the Cats and led in rebound with 8 boards along with Braylon Barnes who had 8 boards as well.

The JV boys were fairly close to Parsons in the first half, going into halftime up 22-20, but a very strong second half for the Wildcats gave them a 61-32 win. Parker Kraft led the boys with 13 points on the evening and Jack Entwosle dropped in 12 points. The JV team had a very close game against Labette County, but the Cats were able to get a 53-50 win. Parker Kraft led the team with 16 points and Jack Entwisle finished with 13 points. The JV boys faced Independence at Circle in their final game last week and came up just short (their first loss of the season) falling 47-51. Dyllon Darling led the Cats with 19 points in the game.

The C-team had a shootout with Parsons as they were neck and neck for most of the ballgame. The Cats came out on top with a 51-49 win behind Dyllon Darling who led the Wildcats with 21 points on the evening. The C-team took care of business as they kept Labette Co at bay all game long, winning easily 49-26. Kole Schwanke led the Wildcats with 12 points in the game. The C-team did not have a game on Saturday.
