The Mulvane men's basketball team fall a couple close league games to close out the 2024 year.

The Mulvane men's basketball team had two games in the last week before winter break, hosting the Augusta Orioles and traveling to Buhler to face the Crusaders, both AVCT D3 league games. The Wildcats hosted Augusta on Tuesday, December 17th and the teams started very close in the first quarter, but a tough second quarter found the Cats down 22-33 at halftime. The Cats were able to keep the score close but fell in the end 54-64. Canon Lazier led the Wildcats with 23 points in the game and Canon and Braylon Barnes led the Cats in rebounds with 6 each.

The JV team had trouble breaking through the Augusta defense all evening, falling 31-55. Jack Entwisle led the Cats with 8 points in the contest. The C-Team jumped out ahead in the first half 22-15, but the Orioles were able to come back in the second half to tie it up 41-41 and force overtime. The Wildcats outscored the Orioles 8-2 in OT and the Cats got the 49-43 win. Breken Downs led the Cats with 17 points in the game and Kole Schwanke broke into double digits with 15 points.

The Wildcats made the long trip to Buhler on Friday, December 20th for the final game before Christmas break. The Wildcats jumped out ahead in the first half 27-26. A tough 4-15 3rd quarter for the Cats found themselves down 31-41 after the 3rd. The Wildcats had a great 4th quarter but just couldn't quite catch up and lost by 4 points with a score of 58-62. Manny Myers led the Wildcats with 27 points as well as on the boards with 8 rebounds. Canon Lazier scored in double digits with 18 points.

The JV team had no trouble against Buhler as they won the game 57-46 behind the effort of four Wildcats scoring in double digits. Parker Kraft led the boys with 18 points and Dyllon Darling, Tavion Richardson, and Jack Entwisle finished with 11 points each. The C-Team had a close game with the Crusaders, but the Cats fell with a score of 48-55. Parker Kraft led the boys with 14 points in the game and Kole Schwanke finished with 13 points.

The Wildcats are sitting at 2-4 so far this season and 0-2 in AVCTL D3 League play. The JV boys are 4-2 and the C-Team is 4-1. The Wildcats will resume play at Winfield on Tuesday, January 7th.
