The Mulvane varsity football team gets their 5th win in a row after defeating the Bullpups.

The Mulvane varsity football team traveled to McPherson on Friday, October 11, 2024, for a league matchup against the Bullpups. The Wildcats jumped on the board in the first quarter with a 21-yard TD pass from Manny Myers to Caleb Boor for Boor's first TD reception of the year. Myers found Boor again in the second quarter wide-open for a 59-yard TD pass. On the very next possession, the Mulvane offensive line opened up a hole for Myers who raced down the field untouched for an 83-yard TD. McPherson was able to get on the board just before halftime but the Cats went in with a 21-7 halftime lead.

Senior Fisher Dye scored in the third quarter with a 1-yard TD run. The Bullpups made a comeback in the fourth quarter with a couple of scores, but Myers found open field again with 3:20 left in the game for an 80-yard TD run. The Mulvane defense was able to hold and the Wildcats got the 35-21 win. 

The Wildcat's offense finished the game with 560 total yards on 64 plays with 417 yards rushing and 143 yards passing. Manny Myers finished with 143 yards on 7 completions out of 12 attempts and 2 passing TDs. Manny Myers finished with 320 yards rushing on 28 attempts and 2 rushing TDs. Fisher Dye finished with 96 yards rushing on 22 attempts and 1 rushing TD. Caleb Boor finished with 80 yards receiving on 2 receptions and had 2 TD receptions.

The Wildcats defense was led by Cooper Brown who finished with 7 tackles (2 solo - 5 assist). Cameron Hagerman finished with 6 tackles (2 solo - 4 assist) and 1.5 tackles for loss. Preston Grube finished with 6 tackles (0 solo - 6 assist) and 1.0 tackles for loss. KJ Schanz finished with 6 tackles (2 solo - 4 assist) and 0.5 tackles for loss. Grady Myers finished with 5 tackles (3 solo - 2 assist).

The JV team hosted McPherson on Monday and the Bullpups got on the board first with a couple of scores in the first quarter. The Wildcats added a score of their own with a 75-yard kickoff return for a TD by Damien Nicholson and a 2-pt Jeter Tatum to Hudson Myers conversion. McPherson added to their lead with three more touchdowns before the Wildcats scored again with a 42-yard TD pass from Jeter Tatum to Brody Clasen. Those two hooked up again for the 2-point conversion. The final score was 16-34.

The Varsity team is sitting at 5-1 on the year and 3-1 in league play. the Wildcats will face McPherson next as the varsity will travel to MAC on Friday and the JV will be at home on Monday.

Note: Mulvane junior Manny Myers was the week 6 Sports-In-Kansas State Athlete of the Week for his performance in the McPherson game.
