The Mulvane High School girls basketball team hosted the 45th Annual Wildcat Classic last week. The #3 seed Wildcats faced the #6 seed Campus in the first round of play. The Wildcats jumped out ahead of the Colts 15-6 in the first quarter and kept up the pressure all game, winning 47-31. Olivia Ellis led the Wildcats with 19 points and Brittani Peschel finished with 10 points. Kylie Schwanke led the girls on the boards with 7 rebounds and also dropped in 9 points.
The Wildcats next faced the #2 seed Conway Springs. The Wildcats outscored the Cardinals 11-8 in the first quarter and 11-7 in the second, going into halftime up 22-15. The Cardinals made a little bit of a comeback in the third quarter, but the Cats were able to finish strong and get the 45-41 win. Olivia Ellis led the girls with 13 points in the game and Brittani Peschel and Kylie Schwanke both broke into double digits with 11 and 10 points respectively. Schwanke also led the Cats in rebounds with 7 boards.
The Wildcats faced the defending champs and #1 seed Ark City in the championship game on Saturday. The Wildcats won the first quarter 11-10 against the Bulldogs, but the Cats struggled in the second quarter and went into halftime down 14-23. The Cats played a great second half, matching the 'Dogs 14-14 and 14-14, and fell with a final score of 42-51. Brittani Peschel led the Wildcats with 23 points in the game. Reece Lazier had a big night on the boards with 10 rebounds.
Freshman Brittani Peschel and senior Olivia Ellis were selected to the 2025 Wildcat Classic All-Tournament Team. Brittani finished the tournament with 44 points and Olivia finished with 40 points.
