The Mulvane football team gets its 6th win in a row after defeating Coffeyville on the road.

The Mulvane varsity football team made the long trip to Coffeyville on Friday, October 18, 2024 for a non-league matchup against the Golden Tornadoes. The "Nados" hit early in the first quarter with a long TD run but the Wildcats answered right back with a 31-yard TD run by Fisher Dye. Both teams would trade scores again, the Cats with a 73-yard TD run by Manny Myers. The defense stopped the Nados and the Cats would punch in one more score before halftime with a 2-yard run by Fisher Dye.

Coffeyville scored again in the third quarter and it was once again answered by the Cats with a 43-yard run by Manny Myers and then again in the fourth quarter with a 14-yard run by Myers. Coffeyville cut the lead to one score with a long run in the fourth, but the Cats responded to put the game out of reach with an 18-yard pass from Manny Myers to Grady Myers and the Cats held on for the 44-28 win.

The Wildcat's offense finished the game with 468 total yards on 51 plays with 362 yards rushing and 106 yards passing. Manny Myers finished with 106 yards on 6 completions out of 10 attempts and 1 passing TD. Manny Myers finished with 224 yards rushing on 17 attempts and 3 rushing TDs. Fisher Dye finished with 153 yards rushing on 24 carries and 2 rushing TDs. Grady Myers finished with 67 yards receiving on 4 receptions and had 1 TD reception.

The Wildcats defense was led by Dylan Rogers finished with 11 tackles (5 solo - 6 assist) and 2.0 tackles for loss. Drew Miller finished with 9 tackles (5 solo - 4 assist) and 0.5 tackles for loss. Fisher Dye finished with 7 tackles (3 solo - 4 assist). Cameron Hagerman finished with 7 tackles (2 solo - 5 assist) and 2.5 tackles for loss. Grady Myers finished with 6 tackles (1 solo - 5 assist).

The JV team hosted Coffeyville on Monday and the Wildcats scored early and often in the first quarter, starting with a defensive safety and then Jeter Tatum with a 3-yard run. Tatum then found Hudson Myers for a 25-yard TD pass and then Brody Clasen for a 9-yard TD pass. The Cats scored in the second quarter with another defensive safety when Jaidyn Baxter and Jaxon Morris tackled the quarterback in the endzone. The Cats went into halftime with a 34-6 lead after Tatum found Frank Carson for a 5-yard TD pass late in the second quarter.

The Cats offense did not get much going in the second half, but the defense got a couple of defensive touchdowns in the fourth quarter with a 28-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Kyler Dieker and a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown by Tanner Hargrove. The JV team won with a final score of 46-6.

The Varsity team is sitting at 6-1 on the year and 3-1 in league play and the JV team is at 5-2 on the year. The Wildcats will face Winfield next as the varsity will host the Vikings on Friday for senior night and the JV will travel to Winfield on Monday.
