Mulvane 7th Grader and future Mulvane High School wrestler Kaylee Thompson is currently ranked #1 in girls nationals 12U in the 195 lb weight class. Kaylee recently finished in 1st place in the Tulsa Kick-Off tournament and also finished in 1st place in the 12U HWT bracket at the Tulsa Nationals tournament in January. She was also awarded the "Outstanding Wrestler" award for the tournament. Thompson won her first match by fall in 17 seconds, her second match by fall in 2:33, and her championship match by fall in 25 seconds.
Kaylee took 1st place this weekend in the Battle of the Belt here at the Mulvane Casino in the 12U boys and girls bracket. Kaylee wrestled for a max of 73 seconds on the mat and she got the outstanding wrestler as well.
Thompson has her eye on winning the "Triple Diamond" in nationals as she is traveling to Reno in April for the "Reno Worlds" wrestling tournament from April 3-6.
Wrestling is something that Kaylee and her sisters have grown up with all their lives as their mom, Tiffany Hanson-Thompson, a 2007 Mulvane High School graduate was one of the few girls who wrestled for Mulvane back then. Girls wrestling has exploded in recent years and is one of the fastest-growing women's sports in the nation.
Once Thompson gets into Mulvane High School, she will be looking to join a couple of Mulvane greats in Mulvane's record books with Kammie Schanz (2023) and Leiannah Landreth (2025). Kammie is Mulvane's first girl state champion (2021 & 2023) and Leiannah Landreth is a multi-state medalist for the Wildcats.
