MHS - Women's Basketball / February 23, 2025 By Kasey McDowell
The Mulvane High School girl's basketball team hosted Winfield last Friday for a league matchup with the Vikings on Homecoming night. The varsity girls fell behind by one in the first half and went into halftime with a score of 15-16. The Cats took control in the second half, outscoring the Vikings 22-4 in the second half, and won the game with a final score of 37-20. Brittani Peschel led the Cats with 16 points in the game and Kylie Schwanke finished with 14 points and also led the girls in rebounds with 7 boards.
The JV team only played half a game due to low Winfield numbers, and the girls had no trouble against the Vikings as they won the game 22-4. Kinley Kendrick and Halle Ensley led the Cats with 6 points each in the game. The C-Team girls had a battle with the Vikings but the Wildcats came out on top with a score of 37-35. Kaitlyn Paul led the Cats with 20 points and Haylynn Jones scored in double digits with 12 points.

The Wildcats hosted Buhler last Monday for a league matchup against the Crusaders that was rescheduled from a previous date. The Varsity had trouble getting points to fall against Buhler as they fell 39-57. Halle Ensley led the girls with 12 points in the game and Brittani Peschel and Reece Lazier led the Cats on the boards with 4 rebounds each.
Senior Olivia Ellis etched her name in the Mulvane High School record books when she hit two 3-pointers in the game. Olivia passed Emma Chambers (2015-16) in 3-pointers made in a season of 37. Olivia currently has 38 this season. Ellis also tied Elise Gerlach (2010-13) in 3-pointers made in a career of 79.
The JV team had a shootout with Buhler as they were neck and neck for most of the ballgame. The Wildcats jumped out ahead in the first half and the Crusaders attempted a comeback in the second half, but the Cats held on for the 35-32 win. Kaitlyn Paul led the Cats with 12 points on the evening. The C-team had trouble breaking through the Buhler defense all evening as they fell 28-57. Lucia Jal led the girls with 11 points in the game.
