The Mulvane varsity football team made the long trip to Independence on Friday, September 8, 2023, for a non-league matchup against the Bulldogs. The Cats and Dogs went scoreless in the first quarter, but the Cats were able to jump on the board with a 2-yard run by quarterback Manny Myers at the start of the second quarter. The Cats went up 14-0 at halftime after a 17-yard TD run by running back Fisher Dye.
Myers found the endzone again in the third quarter with a 1-yard run. The Bulldogs were able to score a couple of touchdowns in the second half, but the Mulvane defense forced a couple of late turnovers and the Cats were able to hold on for the 21-14 win, moving 2-0 on the season.
The Wildcat's offense finished the game with 311 total yards on 51 plays with 190 yards rushing and 121 yards passing. Manny Myers finished with 121 yards on 8 completions out of 14 attempts. Manny Myers finished with 126 yards rushing on 21 attempts and 2 rushing TDs and Fisher Dye finished with 56 yards on 12 carries and 1 rushing TD. Lucas Sorensen finished with 68 yards receiving on 2 receptions.
The Wildcats defense was led by Tucker Hargrove who finished with 6 tackles (4 solo - 4 assist), 2.0 tackles for loss, and 1.0 sacks. Manny Myers finished with 5 tackles (4 solo - 2 assist) and 1.0 tackles for loss. Garrett Olson finished with 4.5 tackles (4 solo - 1 assist) and 0.5 tackles for loss. Shannon Fuller finished with 3.5 tackles (3 solo - 1 assist) and 1.5 tackles for loss. Reed Hackleman finished with 3 tackles (2 solo - 2 assist).

Scoring Plays:
The JV squad hosted the Bulldogs on Monday, September 11th in a wet and rainy game. The Cats jumped on the board in the second quarter with a 1-yard run by Grady Myers and a Kurtis Caruthers 2-pt conversion run. The Cats tacked on two more scores in the second half with a 2-yard TD pass from Myers to Caleb Boor and a nice 65-yard TD run by Kurtis Caruthers. The Bullldogs got a late score but the Cats won 20-8.
