The Wildcats take down the Rose Hill Rockets, improve to 5-0 on the season, and ranked #2 in state.

The Mulvane men's basketball team wrapped up the 2020 games with a 63-58 win over the Rose Hill Rockets on Tuesday, December 15th to improve to 5-0 on the season and currently ranked #2 in the state in 4A behind Bishop Miege (the Cats are #1 ranked in terms of 4A public schools). The Wildcats were scheduled to play Wichita Collegiate last Friday but the Spartans had to postpone due to Covid. The top 10 are:

The Wildcats were down one man last Tuesday as Ian Comer was out sick, so the Cats had to change their game plan a bit. Ian has been a force down in the paint this season for the Wildcats, averaging 16.3 per game and 6.5 rebounds. Senior Trey Abasolo stepped up and had the best game of his career as he dropped in 40 points against the Rockets with 8 field goals, 5 three-pointers, and 9 free throws.

Trey and junior Landon Coe led the Cats in rebounds with 8 each. Landon finished with 9 points in the game. Senior Canon Smith finished with 6 points and 1 rebound, junior Mason Ellis finished with 4 points and 6 rebounds, and freshman Kaiden Abasolo finished with 4 points and 1 rebound.

The JV boys also wrapped up their 2020 games with a 31-29 win over the Rockets. The game was only 2 quarters due to a shortage of players until after the Christmas break. The JV boys are also sitting at 5-0 on the season. The C-Team boys will resume play after the break and are currently sitting at 2-0 on the season.

Going into the break, Trey is leading the Cats with 116 points (23.2 average) and in rebounds with 45 (9.0 average). Comer is sitting at 65 points on the season (16.3 average) and 26 rebounds (6.5 average), Landon Coe with 45 points (9.0 average) and 22 rebounds (4.4 average), Ellis with 38 points (7.6 average) and 13 rebounds (2.6 average), Kaiden Abasolo with 29 points (5.8 average) and 8 rebounds (1.6 average), Smith with 15 points (3.0 average) and 6 rebounds (1.2 average), Ballinger with 14 points (3.5 average) and 2 rebounds (0.5 average), Jordan Coe with 8 points (1.6 average) and 9 rebounds (1.8 average), Tab Creekmore with 7 points (1.8 average) and 1 rebound, and Jacob Duncan with 2 points and 1 rebound.

The Wildcats will be back in action after the break on Friday, January 8th as they will host the Wellington Crusaders in an AVCTL D4 league matchup.
