The women's soccer team finish 2-1 in Wichita North tournament, grab 2nd place.

Note: The article has been edited to reflect that penalty kick goals in overtime do not count as a regular goal for the athlete that made the kick. This also goes for overtime penalty kick goals against the goalie. Whichever team wins the shootout gets 1 point in OT.

The Mulvane Women's soccer team participated in the Wichita North tournament last week and had 3 tough games and finished in 2nd place in the tournament. The Cats got wins over Wichita Heights and Wichita Trinity and fell to a tough Circle team in the championship game.

The Wildcats faced Wichita Heights last Monday, May 3rd, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie after regulation. Instead of an overtime quarter, the game went to a penalty kick shootout. Each team has 5 players shoot a penalty shot and Karlie Kanaga, Emma Hoffman, and Cassidey Coon all made their shots and Rylie Schiffelbein allowed only 1 by and the Cats got the 3-2 win.

The Wildcats were led by Karlie Kanaga and Emma Kolbe who finished with 1 goal each and Emma Hoffman with 1 assist.

Rylie Schiffelbein guarded the Wildcats net and finished the game with 10 saves with 13 shots on goal.

The Cats next faced Wichita Trinity on Thursday and the Knights jumped on the Cats with 2 goals in the first half, but the Cats dropped in 5 goals in the second half and the game again ended in a tie after regulation (5-5). Emma Anderson, Karlie Kanaga, Emma Kolbe, and Emma Hoffman all scored their shots and Rylie only allowed 2 goals and the Cats secured the 6-5 win.

The Wildcats were led by Emma Hoffman who finished with 3 goals, Emma Kolbe who finished with 2 goals and 2 assists, and Karlie Kanaga with 1 assist.

Rylie Schiffelbein guarded the Wildcats net and finished the game with 10 saves with 17 shots on goal.

The girls faced the undefeated Circle Thunderbirds in the tournament championship game on Saturday and the Cats were neck and neck with Circle in the first half and most of the second half but the Thunderbirds were able to drop in 4 as the Cats lost 1-5 for 2nd place in the tournament. The Wildcats were led by Karlie Kanaga who finished with the team's 1 goal in the game.

Rylie Schiffelbein guarded the Wildcats net and finished the game with 10 saves with 15 shots on goal.

The Wildcats will be celebrating senior night tomorrow at Lyle Couch Stadium as they host Circle in a league matchup.
