The girls soccer team sweeps Winfield, battles through double overtime for a tie with McPherson.

The Mulvane girls soccer team had two games this past week, hosting the Winfield Vikings on Monday, April 18th, and making the long trip to McPherson on Tuesday, April 19th. 

The Wildcats found the back of the net 10 times against Winfield, scoring 7 goals in the first half and 3 in the second half, for the 10-0 win. The Cats were led by Karlie Kanaga who finished with 4 goals and 4 assists. Freshman Jade Smallwood found the back of the net 2 times for the first goals of her varsity career. Emma Hoffman and Emma Kolbe also finished with 2 goals each in the game.

Rylie Schiffelbein guarded the Wildcat's net and finished the game with 2 saves with 2 shots on goal. "The girls played great," said Coach Jesse Myers.  "They have so many offensive weapons and when they use them all it really is a beautiful game."

The JV girls won their game 5-0 with goals from Haylie Comstock, Cydnee Adams, and Neveah Zimmerman with an assist by Kierra Cain. Katelyn Wyant had a clean sheet with 6 saves.

The girls made the long trip to McPherson on Tuesday for a tough match against the Bullpups. The Wildcats scored 2 goals in the first half, one each by Emma Kolble and Karlie Kanaga. The Bullpups responded in the second half, getting 2 goals of their own to tie the game up and forcing overtime. Both teams battled in two overtimes, but the game ended in a draw. Rylie Schiffelbein guarded the Wildcat's net and finished the game with 13 saves with 15 shots on goal.

"Kamryn Nolan and Ashlyn Alumbaugh had some big plays on defense, while Cydnee Adams had some great battles in the midfield," said Coach Myers. "The girls played very well and we will keep moving forward together."

The JV girls battled hard but fell 0-3 in the match.

The varsity girls are sitting at 5-1-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in league play. The JV girls are sitting at 4-3 on the season and 3-1 in league play. The Cats will be back in action on Monday, April 25th with JV starting at 4:30 PM with one 30-minute half and varsity starting at 5:25 PM.
