Mulvane faced Independence in a non-league matchup, fall in close game. JV & Freshman dominate the Bulldogs.

The Mulvane varsity football team hosted their first home game of the season in week 2 as the Independence Bulldogs came to town for a non-league matchup. The Wildcats and Bulldogs were scoreless after the first quarter, but quarterback Aiden Heckathorn (So.) found Shannon Fuller (Jr.) for a 9 yard TD pass in the beginning of the 2nd quarter. The Bulldogs added 2 quick scores after a long TD run and a short TD run after an interception. The Wildcats finished out the 2nd quarter strong with a 19-yard TD run by runningback Julien Myers (Sr.) and an interception returned for a touchdown by Shannon Fuller.

Both teams added scores in the third quarter, for Mulvane it was Julien Myers with a 2-yard run. The Bulldogs were able to add on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter and hold the Wildcats at bay for the 35-25 win.

The Wildcats offense finished the game with 306 total yards on 53 plays with 181 yards rushing and 125 yards passing. Heckathorn took over the QB duties and finished with 125 yards on 13 completions and 1 TD, and also had 52 yards rushing on 10 attempts. Myers led the team in rushing yards with 121 on 17 attempts. Shannon Fuller led the Cats in receiveing with 38 yards on 5 receptions and Julien Myers, Trenton Davis (Sr.), and Chase Dieker (Sr.) all had double digits receiving yards with 35, 30, and 22 respectively.

The defense was led by Trenton Davis and Garrett Olson (Jr.) who both finished with 7.5 tackles (4 solo - 7 assist and 3 solo - 9 assist), Chase Dieker with 6.5 tackles (3-7), and Ethan Irvine (Sr.) with 4.0 tackles (1-6) and also had 0.5 sacks and 1.0 tackles for loss. Tyke Creekmore (Sr.), Julien Myers, Kaiden Abasolo (Jr.), and Maurice Fuller (Sr.) all finished with 3.0 tackles.

Defense Cont: Parker Richardson 2.5 (1-3), Shannon Fuller 2.0 (1-2), Jordan Coe 2.0 (2-0), Noah West 1.5 (0-3), Tucker Hargrove 1.0 (1-0), Ethan Kasparek 1.0 (0-2), Karter Holinde 0.5 (0-1).

The JV team made the long trip to Independence on Monday for their first official "JV" game in several years. The Cats wasted no time in getting on the board with a safety by Tucker Hargrove and Cameron Hagerman. The Wildcats found the endzone with a 5-yard TD pass from Lucas Sorensen to Brayden Tatum. The Cats rounded up the first half scoring with a 4-yard TD run by Fisher Dye.

The Wildcats defense scored another safety in the third quarter with Hargrove and Hagerman again and Fisher Dye found the endzone again with a 1-yard TD run. The Cats defense scored a third safety of the game in the fourth quarter by Gaelin Mason-Schmidt and Fisher Dye. Quarterback Lucas Sorensen got his first TD of the season with an 18-yard TD run and to round out the scores he found Levi Kasparek for a 14-yard TD pass.

The Freshman team had their first "freshman only" game in several years and they got to work quickly in the first quarter with 48-yard TD run by Hunter Landis. The freshman defense also scored a safety against the Bulldogs. Quarterback Manny Myers crossed the goalline with a 21-yard run, and Rylan Snyder scored a TD with a 16-yard run, all in the first quarter.

Curtis Caruthers scored a touchdown in the second quarter with a 45-yard run and Reed Hackleman crossed the goalline with a long 62-yard run. Caleb Boor rounded out the Wildcat scoring with a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter.

The varsity team will travel to Augusta this Friday for their first league game of the season with a 7:00 PM kickoff. The JV & C-Team squads will host Augusta for 2 games on Monday, September 19th with the first game starting at 5:00 PM.
