The MHS football team faced the Bullpups in the first round of the 4A State. The Cats fall after one tough quarter.

The Mulvane varsity football team made the long trek up to McPherson for the second time in 3 weeks for the first round of the 4A State Tournament. The Wildcats jumped on top in the first quarter with a nice pass from quarterback Lucas Sorensen (Jr.) to Julien Myers (Sr.) for a 27-yard TD pass. The defense was on fire in the first half, holding the Bullpups to just one touchdown and the Cats were able to extend their lead to 13-6 after Julien Myers broke free for a 55-yard TD run in the second quarter. The game turned into a tale of one quarter after McPherson was able to score 28 unanswered points in the 3rd quarter and hold on to the 34-13 win.

The Wildcat offense finished the game with 173 total yards on 55 plays with 51 yards rushing and 122 yards passing. Lucas Sorensen (Jr.) finished with 122 yards on 12 completions and 1 passing TD. Julien Myers (Sr.) finished with 85 yards rushing on 16 attempts and 1 TD and also finished with 53 yards receiving and 1 TD reception. Chase Dieker (Sr.) finished with 44 yards receiving on 3 receptions.

The defense was led by Kaiden Abasolo with 7.5 tackles (6 solo - 3 assists), 1.0 sacks, and 3.0 tackles for loss, Trenton Davis with 6.0 tackles (3-6) and 0.5 tackles for loss, Brayden Tatum with 4.5 tackles (3-3), Garrett Olson with 3.5 tackles (2-3), and Ethan Irvine with 3.5 tackles (2-3).

The varsity team finished the season with a 1-8 record and 1-4 in AVCT D3 league play. The Cats scored 128 points this season which is 14.2 points per game. They finished with 903 rushing yards on 287 attempts and 10 rushing TDs and 1013 passing yards on 91 completions and 7 passing TDs. Julien Myers (Sr.) finished with 438 yards rushing on 94 attempts and 4 rushing TDs. Fisher Dye (So.) finished with 395 yards rushing on 95 attempts and 4 rushing TDs. Aiden Heckathorn finished with 80 rushing yards on 38 attempts and 2 rushing TDs.

Lucas Sorensen (Jr.) finished the season with 51 completions out of 101 attempts for 585 passing yards and 5 passing TDs. Aiden Heckathorn (So.) finished with 34 completions out of 69 attempts for 337 yards passing and 1 passing TD. Chase Dieker (Sr.) finished with 241 receiving yards on 22 receptions and 1 TD reception. Julien Myers (Sr.) finished with 216 receiving yards on 20 receptions and 1 TD reception. Shannon Fuller (Jr.) finished the season with 167 yards receiving on 16 receptions and 3 TD receptions.

The defense was led by Trenton Davis (Sr.) who finished with 54.5 tackles (29 solo - 51 assists) and 1.5 tackles for loss. Kaiden Abasolo (Jr.) led the team in tackles for loss on the season with 12.5 and he finished with 34.5 tackles (21-27) and 3 sacks. Ethan Irvine (Sr.) led the team in sacks with 3.0 and had 35 tackles (14-42) and 8 tackles for loss. Shannon Fuller (Jr.) led the team in interceptions and pass breakups with 2 and 8 respectively.

The JV squad finished their season with a 2-1 record and the Freshman/Sophomore group finished their season with a 6-2 record, so the Cats will be looking for those men to step up next year into some roles at the varsity level. The Wildcats will graduate 12 senior players and 2 managers this year:
