The Mulvane High School wrestling program kicked off its 2022-23 season this past Thursday by hosting a home double dual with McPherson and Wellington. The men's varsity team won 7 matches against McPherson but lost with a final score of 39-41. Koehn Dietrich, Cameron Hagerman, Maurice Fuller, Collin Wyant, Christopher Dietrich, and Ethan Irvine all won their match by fall.

Against Wellington, the Cats won 13 matches and won with a final score of 74-6. Koehn Dietrich, Hunter Landis, Cameron Hagerman, Maurice Fuller, Tucker Hargrove, Gaelin Mason-Schmidt, Collin Wyant, and Christopher Dietrich all won their match by fall.

The Wildcat girls, who are returning several state contenders and many new faces, kicked off their season as well against MAC and Wellington. The girls won 4 matches against McPherson but lost with a final score of 24-54. Leiannah Landreth, Larissa Gonzalez, and Jericka Stiles all won their match by fall. 

The Wildcats won 6 matches against Wellington but fell to the Crusaders with a very close final score of 36-42. India Downs, and Kammie Schanz all won their match by fall. Both matches had several open weight categories as the teams are still getting things calibrated for the year.

The girls were back in action quickly as they traveled to Valley Center on Friday for a tournament. The Cats placed 7th out of the 15 teams, including many 5A and 6A schools, with a total of 96 points, and sophomore Leiannah Landreth (115) and senior Kammie Schanz (145) both grabbed the gold in their weight classes, both going 4-0 on the day. Junior Kasey Dillon (130) finished in 3rd place with a 4-1 record.

The varsity boys spent Saturday at Campus High School for a double dual with the Colts and Wichita South. The Cats went 2-0 on the day defeating Campus 66-18 and South 72-12. The Wildcats won 11 matches against Campus and won with a final score of 66-18. Koehn Dietrich, Kaydon Moffett, Kurtis Caruthers, Cameron Hagerman, Maurice Fuller, Collin Wyant, Christopher Dietrich, Ethan Irvine, and Austin Vanderhoof all won their match by fall.

The Wildcats won 12 matches against Wichita South and won with a final score of 72-12. Koehn Dietrich, Hunter Landis, Kaydon Moffett, Kurtis Caruthers, Cameron Hagerman, Tucker Hargrove, Collin Wyant, Andrew Huynh, Christopher Dietrich, and Ethan Irvine all won their match by fall.

The JV boys traveled to Wichita Southeast on Saturday for a JV invite. There was no team scores, just weight class brackets, and AJ Bell finished in 2nd place in one of the 126 lb brackets. Kyson Schultz finished in 3rd place in one of the 126 lb brackets. Austin Wildoner finished in 3rd place in the 120 lb bracket, and Quincy Walker finished in 4th place in the 106 lb bracket.
