MHS - Women's Basketball / December 4, 2023 By Kasey McDowell
The Mulvane High School girls basketball team and new coach Nicole Peschel kicked off their 2023-24 season at Wellington last Friday, December 1st. The varsity girls faced the tough Crusaders team which is ranked in the top 5 in the state in 4A. The Wildcats fell behind in the first quarter 0-17 but bounced back in the second and third quarters to get within 9 points, however, the Crusaders had a 19-8 fourth quarter and the Cats fell 25-47. Teagan Garrison led the Cats with 14 points in the game.
The JV girls had tough second and third quarters in their game against Wellington as they fell 20-39. The Cats outscored the Crusaders 15-12 in the first and fourth quarter combined, but the Crusaders won the second and third quarter 27-5 combined. Kylie Schwanke led the Cats with 7 points on the evening. The Fr/So girls only played 2 quarters and fell to Wellington 14-28. Jaryn Baker led the Cats with 6 points in the half game.
