The Mulvane girls basketball team face a tough Clearwater team, wins thriller.

The Mulvane girl's basketball team hosted a very tough Clearwater team last Tuesday, January 16th for a non-league matchup against the Indians. Clearwater jumped out ahead in the first half 25-19, but the Wildcats came out in the second half and played terrific defense to keep the Indians at bay, allowing only 16 points in the second half. Clearwater's top scorer scored all her 12 points in the first half and the Wildcats kept her at zero points in the second half. Teagan Garrison led the girls with 15 points in the game and Olivia Ellis broke into double digits with 13 points. Ashley Young led the girls on the boards with 7 rebounds.

The JV team faced a tough Clearwater team and the game came down to just a few points and the girls fell 27-31. The Cats and Clearwater were tied after the first quarter 7-7. The Cats lost the second quarter and were behind at halftime 11-15. The teams tied in the second half and the Cats couldn't make up the 4 points. Kylie Schwanke led the Cats with 11 points on the evening.

The JV and Fr/So squads traveled to Winfield last Wednesday for a couple of pick-up games. The JV girls tied the Vikings in three quarters, but a 10-4 second quarter won by the Cats was the big difference as the Wildcats won 29-23. Kylie Schwanke led the Cats with 10 points in the game.

The Fr/So team was fairly even with the Vikings all game and were up by 1 after three quarters, but the Cats had a tough fourth quarter and fell 20-27. Kylie Schwanke led the Cats with 12 points on the evening.

The varsity girls will be back in action this week as they host the Wildcat Classic tournament. The Wildcats will face Wichita North on Tuesday, January 23rd at 7:00 PM.
