The MHS girls basketball team closed out their season at sub-state. Garrison notches record boards.

The Mulvane High School girls basketball team wrapped up their season this past week as they made the long drive to Clay Center for the sub-state game against the Tigers. The Wildcats fell behind in the first half 8-35 and had trouble getting the shots to fall. The Cats had a much better second half but could not make up the points and fell 33-64, ending their 2023-24 season. Teagan Garrison led the Cats with 14 points in the game and Ashley Young led the girls on the boards with 3 rebounds.

The varsity girls finished their season with a 10-11 record and 5-5 in AVCTL D3 league play. The JV girls finished their season with a 7-10 record, and the Fr/So girls finished their season with a 3-9 record. The Cats had some great wins this year and several losses were by just a few points and they finished in 3rd place in the Wildcats Classic.

The Wildcats were led by senior Teagan Garrison who finished with 315 points on the season with 80 2-pointers made, 25 3-pointers, and 80 free throws made. Garrison climbed into the 900+ point club with 906 total career points, the 4th most in Mulvane girl's basketball history. Teagan also notched the record books with the best career free throw percentage of 72.9%, edging out Madison Bish (2009-12) who had a career free throw percentage of 71.0%. Garrison finished her career making 210 free throws out of 288 attempts. Teagan also led the team in assists with 52 and steals with 48 this season.

Senior Ashley Young was the second leading scorer with 130 points on the year and she also had a monster year on the boards with 161 rebounds, the only Wildcat with over 100 rebounds. Ashley finished her career with 458 rebounds, which is 3rd all-time in Mulvane girls basketball history behind Kathy Saxton (651) and Kendra Banzet & Lori Cox (596 each).

Senior Madison Shaw finished the season with 114 points, 50 rebounds, 13 assists, and 20 steals. Junior Olivia Ellis also broke into the triple digits with 113 points, 30 rebounds, 18 assists, and 14 steals. Olivia led the team in 3-pointers made with 26. Senior Madison Phipps finished with 54 points, 65 rebounds, 23 assists, and 13 steals. Senior Ashlyn Alumbaugh finished the season with 46 points, 83 rebounds, 28 assists, and 13 steals. Junior Reece Lazier finished the season with 21 points, 48 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 steals. Junior Kierra Cain finished the season with 7 points, 22 rebounds, 13 assists, and 11 steals.

The Wildcats will graduate five seniors this year, Teagan Garrison, Ashley Young, Madison Shaw, Madison Phipps, and Ashlyn Alumbaugh. These girls have been together for many years and have endured a lot in their 4 years here at MHS going through the covid years, and 3 different head coaches. These girls had a great senior year with Coach Peschel coming in and providing strong leadership and a strong foundation to keep building on.
