The girls varsity basketball team defeats the Parson Vikings on the road to capture first win of the season.

The varsity and JV girls basketball teams made the long trip to Parsons KS last Saturday, December 19th for a make-up game that was postponed from earlier in the season and the Wildcats came home with their first win of the season. The Varsity girls topped the Parsons Vikings 69-53 and the JV girls fell 37-43. The varsity win is the first win for new coach Doug Evers and the Wildcats are currently sitting at 1-5 on the season.

The Cats took the lead in the first quarter behind the 7 point efforts by senior Kaitlyn Klein and sophomore Karlie Kanaga and 2 points from freshman Teagan Garrison. Kanaga dropped in 6 more points in the second quarter and Garrison, junior Kamryn Nolan, and freshman Madison Shaw all scored 2 points each as the Wildcats went into halftime up 28-17.

The Wildcats exploded in the third quarter scoring 27 points with 8 points from Nolan, senior Campbell Williams with 6 points, Garrison with 4 points, Klein with 3 points, and Haley Shaw with 2 points. The Vikings also had an explosive 25 point fourth quarter but the Wildcats scored 14 with Garrison's 6 points, Klein, Nolan, H. Shaw, and freshman Ashlyn Alumbaugh all scoring 2 points and held on for the 69-53 win.

Karlie Kanaga led the Wildcats with a season-high 17 points and Garrison, Klein, and Ashley Young all led the Cats with 5 rebounds each.

The JV girls fought the tough fight but fell just short of the Vikings 37-43. The Cats took a 21-16 lead into halftime but the Vikings came back and outscored the Cats 27-16 in the second half to grab the win. Campbell Wiliams was on fire, dropping in five 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 17 points.

Going into the Christmas break, Kamryn Nolan is leading the Cats in points and in rebounds with 44 points and 24 rebounds. Garrison is sitting at 39 points and 19 rebounds, Klein with 37 points and 19 rebounds, Kanaga with 33 points and 12 rebounds, Haley Shaw with 15 points and 13 rebounds, Stevenson with 14 points and 3 rebounds, Madison Shaw with 10 points and 14 rebounds, Hansen with 9 points and 10 rebounds, Williams with 9 points and 1 rebound, Lauren Young with 7 points and 10 rebounds, Chambers with 4 points and 8 rebounds, Davis with 4 points and 9 rebounds, Alumbaugh with 2 points and 0 rebounds, Ashley Young with 0 points and 5 rebounds, and Cottrell with 0 points and 1 rebound.

The Wildcats will be back in action after the break on Friday, January 8th as they will host the Wellington Crusaders in an AVCTL D4 league matchup.
