MHS - Women's Basketball / December 3, 2021 By Kasey McDowell
The women's basketball teams opened up their 2021-22 season last Friday at Wellington. The JV girls kicked off the evening's games (the C-Team game was canceled) and it was a very exciting game that went in overtime due to a last-second 3-pointer by Kierra Cain to tie up the game 31-31 in the 4th. The Cats fell 31-33 as the clock ticked to zero in overtime. Madison Shaw led the Cats with 7 points on the evening.

The Varsity girls had a tall order as the Wellington team is a top-10 4A team. The girls held the Crusaders to just 8 points in the first quarter and went into halftime down just 4 points 21-25. A tough 3rd quarter for the Cats found them down 29-42 going into the 4th quarter and the Cats fell 41-57. Other than the 3rd quarter, the Cats were right in there with the Crusaders all evening. Lauren Young led the Cats with 8 points on the evening, going 8-8 on the free-throw line. Ashley Young led the Cats in rebounds on the evening with 8 boards.
"I was so proud of the girls and their effort against a good Wellington team," said Coach Carpenter. "It was definitely a step in the right direction. We saw a lot of good things and a lot of things we need to improve and work on."
