The Mulvane girls basketball varsity and JV teams participated in the Circle Thunderbird Classic tournament this past week, playing games against Independence, Parsons, and Labette County. The girls started the tournament against Independence last Monday, December 6th, and a tough first and third quarter found the Cats down and unable to catch up as they fell 33-51. Karlie Kanaga led the Cats with 11 points on the evening and Madison Shaw and Ashley Young led the Wildcats on the boards with 5 rebounds each.

The JV girls dropped in 50 points on Independence and got the win 50-41. Madison Shaw led the Cats with 7 points on the evening.

The second game of the tournament was against Parsons on Thursday, December 9th and the girls were neck-and-neck the entire game, but a tough 4th quarter found the girls down and having to play the foul game as the girls fell 50-61. Teagan Garrison had a monster game and led the Cats with 21 points on the evening. Kamryn Nolan led the girls on the boards with 11 rebounds.

The last game for the Wildcats in the tournament was on Friday, December 10th against Labette County. The girls found themselves down 20-27 at halftime and just couldn't make up the difference in the second half as they fell 32-45. Karlie Kanaga and Kamryn Nolan led the girls with 10 points each on the evening.

Coach Carpenter was very proud of the girl's effort during the tournament. "4 games in 7 days against some really, really good teams," said Carpenter. "I’ll take these girls and compete against anyone and I'm so proud of them." The girls will be back on the court on Tuesday, December 14th in a league matchup against the Rose Hill Rockets.
Update: Sophomore Teagan Garrison was selected to the Thunderbird All-Tournament team.
