The Mulvane Middle School volleyball teams opened up their 2022-23 season last week with separate trips to Prairie Hills and Augusta for a triangular, with Prairie Hills hosting the 8th-grade teams and Augusta hosting the 7th-grade teams. The 7th-grade girls and new coach Courtney Allen took each match to 3 games, falling to Prairie Hills 1-2 (17-25, 27-25, 8-15) and winning the match 2-1 over Augusta (17-25, 25-19, 15-12). The 7B girls and new coach Kim Downs also split on the evening, falling to Prairie Hills 0-2 (24-26, 17-25) and defeating Augusta 2-0 (25-21, 25-22).
The 8th-grade girls made the long trip to Prairie Hills and came home with wins over Augusta and losses to the host team. The 8A team and coach Rose Payne had a very competitive match but fell 1-2 to the Crusaders (25-17, 12-25, 13-15). The girls took down Augusta in fine fashion in 2 games (25-13, 25-5). The 8B team also split on the evening, falling to Prairie Hills 0-2 (16-25, 3-25) and defeating Augusta 2-1 (25-15, 21-25, 15-9).
The Cats will be back in action tomorrow as the 7th graders travel to Rose Hill and the 8th graders will host a triangular at the Mulvane Middle School. All games will start at 4:30 PM.
