MHS - Women's Basketball / January 7, 2023 By Kasey McDowell
The Mulvane Girls Basketball team kicked off their 2023 year of games with a trip to Augusta for a league matchup with the Orioles. The Wildcats and Orioles were neck-and-neck in the first half with the Cats taking a 3-point edge into halftime up 16-13. The Orioles won the 3rd quarter by 4 points, going into the 4th quarter with a 1-point advantage. The Wildcats went to work in the 4th quarter and outscored the Orioles 17-5 for the 39-28 win.
Junior Teagan Garrison was lights out from the free-throw line going 13-14 and led the team with 21 points. Senior Lauren Young had a monster game in the paint and led the Cats with 8 rebounds.
The JV girls won the first quarter but went into halftime down 9-12. The girls made up a point in the 3rd quarter but the Orioles broke open the game in the 4th and the girls fell 25-35. Grace Carpenter led the Cats with 8 points in the game.
The Fr/So team played a 2-quarter game and the Orioles outscored the Cats 16-3 in the first period. The Cats had a good second quarter but were unable to make up the difference and fell 19-25. Kinley Kendrick led the girls with 7 points on the evening.
