Coach Kollmeyer and the Mulvane Softball team has been practicing for a couple of weeks and the first thing that's apparent is this team is very young. 19 out of the 23 girls are sophomore and freshman. The team is lead by the only senior Addison Seier. Addy was an All League 2nd team shortstop last year and also does some work on the mound. Addy finished the 2018 season with a .409 batting average, 27 hits, 5 doubles, 5 triples, and 1 home run. She pitched in 14 games with 3 wins and 2 losses, and a team leading 3.50 ERA.
There are 3 juniors on the team this year, Kaydran Russell who lead the team in batting average last season with a .452 average, 19 hits, 2 doubles, and 1 triple, Isabelle Boatright, and Ashlyn Apel. The only other returning players to log some varsity time are sophomores Brooklyn Payne and Haley Chambers. Payne finished the season with a .313 batting average with 15 hits and 5 doubles. Brooklyn will see some time on the mound as well. Chambers went 2 for 5 at the plate last year for a .400 average.
Mulvane graduated 6 seniors last year. Ashley M. Wilson (All League 2nd Team), Sylar Darnell (All League 2nd Team), Brooklyn Egan (All League Honorable Mention), Lindsey Meairs (All League Honorable Mention), Katie Hayes, and Autumn Cole. Wilson, Hayes, Egan, and Darnell are all playing college softball this year.
Mulvane has a couple new coaches this year with Cindy Wasinger and Michelle Mize joining the coaching staff. Long time Mulvane coach Debby Kendrick will be assisting Kollmeyer this year again.
The Wildcats will kick off the season against Circle at home on March 25th at 4:30 PM.
